Mountains to the Sea
June 15-16, 2013, some 2,614 registered bicycle riders and 700 volunteers will participate in the Trek Across Maine’s ride, a fund raising celebration event for the American Lung Association. For the 15th year in succession Delta Ambulance is coordinating and sponsoring the medical response team ~ as a Gold level sponsor. Riders, numbering slightly more than the population of Hallowell, Maine, will be stretched out over 50-60 miles each day and, understandably, some will encounter problems with accidents and physical difficulties related to the daily weather or their personal capacities.
The Delta Team will respond to riders’ needs. The team consists of EMTs & Paramedics on bicycles and in four ‘Medic vans’ fully-equipped as Advanced Life Support Ambulances communicating through a central communications link – MEDCOM Van. This van is equipped with 2 way radios, cell phones, and ham radio, along with computer assisted mapping and satellite locators in the key response vehicles. Delta also developed the Trek Contingency Plan so things are in place for a worst-case scenario.
“Our goal is to help Trekkers stay in the ride,” said Delta’s Bill McKenna, “but, if circumstances warrant, we will transport riders to the nearest rest stop, or if necessary, to the hospital via the local ambulance services. The Trek has a very good safety record, and we are glad to be a part of its success. Lung health is essential.”
The Delta Team is made up entirely of company supported volunteers and we appreciate our key supporters:
