WATERVILLE, Maine—Today, Delta Ambulance announced Kevin Gurney, the nonprofit’s Director of Education was accepted into George Washington University’s Master of Science program in Emergency Medical Services Leadership.
Gurney joined the Delta team in 1998 as an emergency medical technician (EMT). He quickly moved up the ranks to an EMT-Intermediate, paramedic, critical care paramedic, and in 2006, became Delta’s education coordinator. In 2008, Gurney achieved an Associate of Applied Science degree in Emergency Medical Service (EMS) Education. He accepted his new title of director of education in 2012.
“At Delta, we really set the bar high in terms of certifications and licensing for our employees and it’s especially gratifying when they are committed to excelling even beyond that,” said Tim Beals, executive director of Delta Ambulance. “We’re very proud of Kevin for taking on this new challenge, and are excited about what this will contribute to our educational department and to our leadership.”
All field staff at Delta maintain current licensure with Maine Emergency Medical Services, and are encouraged continued advancement in a variety of EMS areas, many which earn a higher level of licensure. All Delta paramedics maintain certification in advanced cardiac life support, pre-hospital trauma life support, pediatric advanced life support, mass casualty incident management, hazardous materials, and paramedic inter-facility transfer.
Gurney, a resident of Industry, plans to complete his master’s degree by 2016. “I’m looking forward to learning more about EMS leadership, and how I can bring that knowledge to the table at Delta to benefit the company, as well as the communities we serve,” said Gurney.
