At a special ceremony held at the VFW Post
887, Augusta, Kevin Gurney was awarded the National Gold Medal Award
for EMTs by the VFW. The ceremony was conducted by Alfred Michaud,
VFW State Commander, Harry Stickney, VFW District Commander and Richard
Willette Waterville Post 1285 Commander
Kevin was nominated by Waterville VFW Post
1285
Evaluation criteria for the award included
recognition by colleagues, consistent excellence in the performance
of his duties with documentation, consistent dedication to his official
responsibilities over a period of years and continuous growth in responsibilities
and skills within his profession.
Kevin is employed by Delta Ambulance as an
EMT-Paramedic and serves as the company’s education coordinator.
Kevin started at Delta Ambulance in 1998 as a basic EMT. Over the
years he progressed to paramedic, has earned Critical Care Transport
Paramedic (University of Maryland) and an Associates Degree in Emergency
Medicine.
At Delta Kevin serves as the Education Coordinator
and on the Clinical Standards and Practices and Operations Teams and
is a State of Maine Certified EMS instructor. At home he serves as
a Captain in the Industry Fire Department. He received Delta’s
Silent Hero Award in 2002 for outstanding service to the community
and his peers. He consistently ranks in the top 10% for clinical excellence
at Delta and has received the Clinical Excellence Award.
Kevin resides in Industry where he lives with
his wife Kate and two sons, Michael and Alexander.
